Drool-Worthy Shelves

I know I was supposed to be focusing on organizing this month but I gotta tell ya, it's just not there for me. And instead of forcing it, I'm going to embrace it and hope that maybe November is a better month for that particular area of decorating and home improvement.

Today? I'd much rather drool over these shelves.  I've been thinking about the teal wall in my family room and I'm going to attempt some diy floating shelves this weekend.  Here is my inspiration, enjoy!

Organizville, Here I Come

I love organization. Me and systems and arranging and classifying and a-place-for-everything-and-everything-in-it's-place are best friends. Best friends forever best friends.

I'm really kinda shocked that more of my house is organized. I blaming this on the blissfulness of that first year in our house and how my focus was on all the fun decorating stuff. But I'm at a stand still with that (read: decorating budget is maxed out) so it's the perfect time to tackle the ugly messy stuff (it's free to organize right?) that's hiding in drawers and closets and omg the basement.

So I'm going to spend the majority of October working on getting our problem areas organized. I don't think it's realistic that they get completed this month (but my god, how amazing would that be?) but I am giving myself a December 31 deadline. Casa de' Clami (you like what I did there? Clay? Ami? Clami? Oh whatever, it's cute) is starting the new year out completely organized.

The areas I'll be working on:

1. Basement

2. Computer Desk

3. Kitchen Pantry (and under the sink)

4. Bathroom Closet (and again, under the sinks)

5. Bedroom Closet (and hopefully, maybe, please please my shoes)

6. Spare Room Closet

I'm a little on the fence about the organizing my shoes and the spare room closet only because I know both of those projects are going to involve an organizing structure of some sort and I know those aren't free. We'll see.

'Tis the Season

Tonight we will be busting out the Halloween decorations. Ok, so I actually busted some of them out a couple weeks ago but Halloween is my favorite and I couldn't resist. And Target has had Halloween decorations up since the beginning of September so I'm actually late to the party by their standards.

Tonight will be the official Halloween decorating party at our place though. I got four Pumpkin Spice candles burning, some cider and rum ready, and a mix CD of fun Halloween songs for the kiddos (ok, for Clay and I, sheesh) to rock out to. FUN TIMES FOSHO.

Wallpaper- It's Not Just For Walls

So yes, back to decorating. We have a built-in entertainment-type center in our family room. I'm thinking about wallpapering the back of the book shelf for some added pop. How can I not consider the idea after seeing these fabulous examples?

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

For our master bedroom I am on the hunt for gently used mirrors. Preferably small, and prerably round, but an assortment of mirrors to hang in a collection on a small wall in between the bed and the window.  My goal is to spray paint them all gold and have them look as fabulous as some of these collections.

Bedroom Ideas

I've been looking through a lot of design magazines, watching design shows and browsing design blogs, trying to get some inspiration to start our bedroom remodel.  I know I want the space to feel sensual and sexy and even a bit glam without being too feminine. 

Initially I thought about a monochromic color scheme: black, white, gray with lots of silver and steel accents.  This is actually my first choice, but Clay is insistent that he doesn't want a black and white bedroom.  Trust me, I don't get it either, because who could resist these rooms:

My second choice would be a deep eggplant purple room, with accents of either brown, cream and gold or taupe, silver and gray.

I'm anxious to get a general plan for this room started so I can start thinking about furniture and bedding and curtains.  I've been thrifting a lot lately and thrifting is so much easier when you have a vision.

Living Room Layout

I may not be able to furnish and arrange my living room quite yet, but I can dream dammit. And these are some layouts that I'm loving right now.

I like how the couch and chair aren't against the wall.  A perfect spot is created for the bookcases by pushing the furniture out from against the wall just a bit.

I'm leaning more toward positioning our furniture in this manner and putting the TV where the fireplace is. I can't get away with no TV in this room but I would like less focus on it and I think that's achievable by facing the furniture toward the other pieces and not the TV.

I think I'm going to have to change the mood board I just did for our living room to include two bookcases as each of the three pictures I've shared have dual bookcases. 

Decorating with Seashells

My stepdad has been in Florida with his environmental cleanup crew, helping clean up some of the oil spilt from the BP disaster, and we just received some shells he mailed us.  Now I've never really been one to decorate with shells, but I absolutely love displaying items that are meaningful and this is pretty special.  Not to mention my kiddos are obsessed with them. 

I found the following two pictures online and both have inspired me to get these shells in a pretty dish and out for display.



Decorating with Maps and Globes

Yesterday's mood board inspired the following, um, inspiration.  I am really digging Clay's idea of decorating with maps and globes in our family room, especially after seeing the following pictures.

+ Bed, - Headboard

Clay and I got a new bed this weekend. For the past how ever many years we've been getting by with our old full-sized bed. It wasn't bad until the babies came along and then it got a bit cramped. Ok, a lot cramped.  So we upgraded to this massive, comfy, amazing, I-know-we-just-woke-up-but-let's-go-back-to-bed king-sized piece of heaven.  We opted to not purchase a headboard at this time because honestly? our whole bedroom set needs to be replaced and I still have no idea what I want to do in this room.  White and gray tones with black furniture? Silver and purple colors with espresso furniture?  I just don't know and that means no headboard in the meantime.  Well it shoulda meant that but my mom insisted we take her old one because "every bed needs a headboard!" (but I know it's really because she just wanted it out of her house) and it's old and crazy looking and there ain't no diy in the world that can update this baby.   

In an effort to take my mind off this headboard eyesore, I've been dreamily pretending that the following headboards are mine.

This soothes my Type A Straight Lines and 90 Degree Angles personality.

Ohhhh, for the love of frames.

Shoespiration

This is the normal state of my shoes.  I try to keep them orderly and nicely arranged like the first picture but my darling daughter, who at the tender age of one is starting to develop her own shoe obsession, systematically pulls each one off the shelf, closely inspects it, and then tosses it to the floor.

I've been drooling over these amazing closets and trying to come up with something as equally fabulous for our bedroom.  Preferably something two feet off the floor where little hands can't reach.

Displaying Pictures and Frames

I found the most amazing deal on a 20x24 inch picture frame while at Michael's yesterday. Although it was only the frame, no glass and no picture, I couldn't pass on its $12 price tag.  So I've been reviewing some of my favorite frame displays for some inspiration.

I love the preciseness and balance of this display.

This display is gorgeous with its balanced disarray. And it's nice how all pictures have similar tones and are showcased with the same matting style.

This is just absolutely lovely and fun.

I like both the contrast of the frames against the wall and the dividing line between the top and bottom row of pictures.



Such great inspiration! I'm excited to get my frame hung and start my own picture collection on our living room wall.
